MetaFit Coach Course Review

This time last year, I had absolutely no idea what a MetaFit class was. I hadn’t even heard the name. Then I met a few people who were MetaFit coaches. One ‘Chicken Loop’ workout, a lot of sweat and a near cardiac arrest later, I was hooked.

Since October last year, I have been doing one MetaFit class per week, to stay in line with my Atlantic Row training programme.

It’s a 20-25 minute bodyweight high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, which includes strength exercises, plyometrics and static holds. The short bursts of high-intensity movement stimulates muscle growth and the metabolic rate, whilst burning fat and calories during and after the session!

METAFIT IS MEGA! And the beauty is it’s over within half an hour and can be worked within each individuals capability.
Me being me, I then think “I’d like to be a MetaFit coach, that way I can do the workouts everyday, when I want and also get to teach people this awesome class.”

For £175, the MetaFit website told me I would be qualified in a day (the requirement is to have a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification) so there I was, in London a few weeks later sitting in front of the main man and MetaFit founder himself, Justin Corcoran. This felt like quite an honour.

Justin spoke with so much passion and pride about how he started his business 10 years ago after leaving the Marines. Back then it was not fashionable to do short workouts like his, instead, a 1-hour aerobics class was trendy (and so were leotards that went up the bum!) but he stuck by his vision and today he has over 6,000 coaches worldwide!

The day started at 11am with an “Ape Shapes’ workout to get the MetaFit juices flowing and within no time at all the room of 20 ‘coaches’ were huffing, puffing and creating sweat angels.

What I like about MetaFit is there’s no equipment, no fancy complicated moves, it’s just pure bodyweight movement that can be modified for all but also works at pushing everyone. And form and quality is an important factor in each of the exercises.

We were finished at 3.30pm, which seems like a short day but Justine packed so much in. He focused on the history of the brand, the importance of warming up, demonstrated excellent teaching skills and gave an outstanding impression on the core values of HIIT training.

So now, I am a fully fledged MetaFit coach!
Each session is taught with a branded track. Each track costs £8.99 and a new one comes out every month, which will allow me to keep my classes exciting and varied. I can subscribe and unsubscribe to the updates whenever I want and purchase as many or as little tracks as I want. The first subscription comes with 4 tracks to get me started, logos and marketing material. I think that’s a pretty good deal!

I believe we will see an increase in the number of MetaFit classes and coaches over the next few years, with people’s lives becoming busier and the desire the be fit and healthy increasing but also that HIIT training is so effective.

Working at a high intensity for 20 minutes is proven to be more effective then a steady 1 hours exercise, plus the metabolic rate is increased for longer meaning more fat burn – as if you’d chose anything else?! Functional, practical, realistic, no fuss fitness that you can fit into any part of your day.
You’ve guessed I like MetaFit ay? Give it a try. And if you live near me, I’ll be doing early morning classes (to really boost the metabolism) and private tuition too. The whole concept fits with my fitness and life ethics/views (really didn’t know what word to use then) and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
