I had the pleasure of speaking at the p(our) Symposium speaking about ‘Understanding’ and how my Atlantic rowing team and I tackled challenges mid-ocean. Continue reading Improving Through Understanding: Speaker at P(our) Symposium

In 2018 I rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain to the Carribean. The journey took 43 days, rowing non-stop throughout the day and night in 2-hour shifts. My team and I never got more than 1.5 hours to sleep at a time. We took part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge along with 28 other boats. We pushed hard and placed 10th … Continue reading Rowing 3,000 Miles Across The Atlantic Ocean

On Saturday 6th May 2017, I joined the Sub 7 indoor rowing team, to set a new World record for the fastest team to row 100km. Rowing 20 strokes at maximum effort, followed by 4.5 minutes rest for 5.5 hours non-stop seemed doable, but it turned out it was tougher than it sounds. We rowed 100km in 5:36:30.5 and now have confirmation from Concept2 that we are … Continue reading 100km Indoor Rowing World Record
That’s step 1 done.At least I got out of bed after 36 hours of festering in my own misery. In that time I didn’t open the curtains despite it being a wonderful sunny Good Friday. I didn’t eat. I barely drank anything and cried most of the time. I threw in some sleep for good measure but didn’t shower or brush my teeth. I’m still in … Continue reading The Secret Life of a Fundraiser
Welcome to part 3 of the 7 Woman 7 Challenges Tough Girl Podcast. I feature at 2:47.30 Minutes before this interview, I was busy having a battle with myself….. “Shall I pretend everything is ok and be positive?” or “shall I tell the truth and say I’m having a hard time with fundraising?” After an extremely full day (video diary below) it seemed the latter happened. I’ve … Continue reading Tough Girl Podcast Part 3
21/03/17That was exciting! I just got interviewed on The Ronnie Barbour Show on BBC Essex Radio. After getting to grips with doing interviews on the Tough Girl podcast, I didn’t feel as nervous as I usually do and arrived all prepared with cue cards in case I got tongue tied. It turns out Ronnie didn’t even ask much about my rowing challenge. He had been delving into … Continue reading Radio Interview with BBC Essex
08/03/19I’ve just got in from a training session in the shed. It really is as grim as it sounds. It’s a bog-standard 5m x 2m wooden shed which I imagine was bought from somewhere like B&Q. It’s not top of the range, full of damp, with a plastic window covered in moss and a buckled door. The luxury! My Concept2 rowing machine sits right in … Continue reading Who Turned Off The Lights???
A few weeks ago, I visited parkrun Brentwood to race one of the runners. He ran 5km. I rowed 5km. Who won? Watch here : ) To see my previous parkrun competition with my best mate, Karina Grimes, click here. Continue reading Runner versus Rower Part 2
