In June 2017, I set off to row 1,800 miles around Great Britain, a challenge which took 56 days. The challenge is said to be tougher than rowing across the Atlantic ocean because of the unpredictable British weather, strong currents and rocky coastline. Here is the route the team and I took. As well as not having any ocean rowing experience, I was faced with … Continue reading Rowing Around Great Britain
On Saturday 6th May 2017, I joined the Sub 7 indoor rowing team, to set a new World record for the fastest team to row 100km. Rowing 20 strokes at maximum effort, followed by 4.5 minutes rest for 5.5 hours non-stop seemed doable, but it turned out it was tougher than it sounds. We rowed 100km in 5:36:30.5 and now have confirmation from Concept2 that we are … Continue reading 100km Indoor Rowing World Record
I was invited to run a marathon across the Great Wall of China with only 3 weeks notice. With very little training, no flight or visa and no running gear for the intense Chinese sun, I used the experience as an experiment to see if I could wing it. I’m not sure how it happened but I completed the run in 10 hours 10 minutes and 11.5 seconds. That … Continue reading Conquer The Wall China Marathon
1712/16I was meant to do this 24-hour rowing challenge as part a team, taking it in turns to row in 2-hour shifts, but for various reasons, I ended up doing it by myself.I never would have thought this was possible, rowing constantly for 24 hours but with only 3 days notice, no other option and 2 British records up for grabs, I got stuck in. … Continue reading 24 Hour Indoor Rowing Challenge
I’d wanted to walk around the Isle of Wight for years. The last time I visited was on a school trip in junior school. So I invited my best mate, we stuffed our backpacks full of food and camping gear and a few weeks later we were on the train and ferry to the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight Coastal Path is 71 miles … Continue reading Hiking the Isle Of Wight Coastal Path
Event Date: Friday 29th May 2015 “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Knees and Toes”“Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, Knees and Toes and Eyes and Ears……” It’s 9.30am on a Sunday morning. I’m standing waist deep in a cold river, fully clothed, having not slept since Thursday evening. The group of people I’m with and me are all laughing hysterically as we sing. We act out … Continue reading Primal Events ON TRIAL: 48 Hour Endurance Event
Event Date: Saturday 7th February 2015 I’m not sure what part of me that thought it was a good idea to take part in a 12-hour training camp in The Peak District in the depths of winter. But there I am, driving 2 hours from Lincolnshire to Edale at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, layered up so much that I look like a Michelin man … Continue reading Primal Events ON TRIAL Training Camp
Event date: Saturday 29th November 2014 I’m eating my dinner one evening and checking what Facebook has to offer when I see a post about an event called Primal Events F.E.A.R. I give it a ‘Like’ and write a comment like “this looks cool” and think nothing more of it. A friend saw I’d ‘Liked’ the post, he knew the Race Directors (RDs) and could … Continue reading Primal Events F.E.A.R. : 24 Hour Endurance Event
